The observed energy difference of peak 3 in the STM-XPS (STM standing for atomic force microscopy) spectrum, which originates from the hybridized Rh 4d-Sn 3d bonding in the Rh 4d 5s 5p states, was found to exhibit a linear dependence on the density of the HBL on the clean Au(111) surface.
